Quick Summary

If any part of you longs to make and do really cool things in this world this interview is a must watch! It’s a treasure map to unleash your most creative and expressive life.

Some great statements from the interview

The real reason we don’t move creatively ahead is always and only fear.

Creativity will always provoke fear.

You can’t let fear have control over your creative choices.

Originality vs authenticity when it comes to creative expression in business: Guaranteed it’s already been done, but it’s not yet been done by you. We are all just borrowing from each other but you’re allowed to add your take on it.

If you need to do it, do it. If it’s going to ignite your soul, do it. If you know you need to, do it.

Creating brings you joy. Your creative expression should be the lightest thing in your life, not heavy. It’s about us looking for grace in our lives. That is where our creative expression needs to come from. Helping people is just a side effect of that.

All love eventually becomes help. Paul Tillich

If you want to help, just love. Then you’ll start to radiate and people will want to be near that.

Finding your true purpose is really about find which flavour of sh*t sandwich you’re in for. No matter how much you know you are supposed to do something, it will always come with a sh*t sandwich. Ask yourself 'What do I love so much that I don’t mind eating the sh*t sandwich that comes along with it?'

If someone slams you on social media or in a review, ask yourself ‘Do you still want to do this?’ If the answer is yes, great, keep going. If the answer is no, then it’s not the thing you are supposed to be doing.

If you are doing public speaking and are feeling nervous, ponder this: People don’t need you to bring your fear, doubt, questioning... they have their own. Bring them dignity, grace, female autonomy and speak with unshakable courage. By doing this, you are bringing them what they don’t have.

Perfectionism is a serial killer. It kills, joy, wonder, grace…

Perfectionism is like wearing stilettos, it’s the ultra fancy hort couture style of fear.  Perfectionism can advertise itself as a virtue and trick you into thinking it makes you special.

The true perfectionist will not start something because their standards are so high.

I love this communication Elizabeth had with herself: 'I never promised the universe I would be a good writer. I just promised the universe I would be a writer.'

What Elizabeth said to critics in her head before she published her book 'If you don’t like it, go write you’re own fucking book!’

Failure has a function. It asks you if you really want to go on making things.

There’s no better thing to spend your life doing than saying yes to that invitation of inspiration.

Your creativity has you as a project. It’s building YOU. Get precious about the thing you are making while you’re making it but once it’s done let it go.

There are two kinds of creators in the world. The martyrs and the tricksters. The trickster is playing the whole time, doing things differently and more playfully. Martyrs have heaviness in it. Dance with the trickster part within yourself. Put it out there and see what happens…
